Maddyn Greenway Named Minnesota Player of the Year
Providence Academy senior guard Maddyn Greenway has added another incredible honor to her historic career, being named the 2026 Strib Varsity All-Minnesota Girls Basketball Player of the Year by the Minnesota Star Tribune.
Greenway’s senior season has been nothing short of remarkable. The Kentucky-bound point guard is averaging 36.2 points, 9.2 assists, 6.9 rebounds, and 6.3 steals per game, leading the Providence Academy Lions to another appearance in the state tournament while continuing to rewrite Minnesota basketball history.
Greenway became the all-time leading scorer in Minnesota high school basketball history with 5,505 points (currently). She also holds the state record for career assists with 1,304, cementing her place as one of the most accomplished players the state has ever seen.
Her dominance has extended well beyond Minnesota. Greenway earned national recognition with a selection to the prestigious McDonald's All-American Game, becoming one of just a handful of Minnesota players to receive the honor. She also represented the United States internationally, winning a gold medal with USA Basketball at the FIBA U19 World Cup last summer.
Despite the individual milestones, Greenway has remained focused on team success. Since becoming a varsity starter as a seventh grader, she has helped lead Providence Academy to an incredible 114–14 record while guiding the program to multiple state championships.
Now, as the Lions prepare for the state tournament at Williams Arena, Greenway has her sights set on one final goal, helping Providence Academy capture a fifth consecutive Class 2A state championship before heading to play college basketball at University of Kentucky.
While records and awards will always be part of her legacy, Greenway continues to emphasize what matters most, competing with her teammates and finishing her high school career on the biggest stage.
