Daren Messmore

Director of Athletics & Activities, M.Ed, CMAA

Mr. Messmore, known to students as Coach Mess, joined Providence Academy in 2017 and oversees all athletics and activities across campus. He provides strategic leadership for the school’s programs while also serving in multiple leadership roles with the Minnesota State High School League and at the conference and section levels. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, he remains actively involved in coaching and mentoring athletic administrators nationwide through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. Mr. Messmore was named Regional Athletic Administrator of the Year in 2022–23, and in 2024 helped lead Providence Academy to national recognition as an Exemplary Athletic Program.

Charlie Kenney

Associate Athletic Director, M.Ed, RAA

Mr. Kenney is in his fourth year as Providence Academy’s Associate Athletic Director. He oversees Middle School athletics, clubs and activities, dome operations, and site supervision for home athletic contests. In addition, he serves as the Varsity Boys Golf head coach and is a member of the High School Boys Basketball coaching staff. Mr. Kenney holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Education in Sport Management, both from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.

Jaylaan Wimbush

Strength and Conditioning Coordinator

Coach Jaylaan, known to many as CJ, is a native of St. Petersburg, FL. He played college football at North Dakota State University, where he earned starting roles and helped the team capture four national championships during his career. CJ earned his bachelor’s degree in English in 2018 and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of St. Thomas.

CJ values family deeply and enjoys life with his wife and three young sons. At Providence Academy, he is committed to elevating the strength and conditioning program, focusing on proper teaching and coaching for every student who steps through the doors.

Trent Sylvester

Athletics Coordinator

Mr. Sylvester is in his first year as the Athletics Coordinator at Providence Academy. In this role, he assists with daily athletic operations, including coordinating game day events, supporting dome operations, and helping with home contests and athletic programming.

He works with coaches, and staff to support a positive and organized athletic environment while helping student-athletes grow in skill, leadership, and confidence.

Trent is a 2025 National Champion from Lindenwood University, where he played four years of collegiate hockey and graduated with a degree in Sports Management
